Scoring
How is it scored?
And what are the weightings?
The total score for the AMC/AIME competitions is equal to the score of the AMC test added to the score of the AIME test multiplied by 20. The top 500 or so competitors in the country qualify for the USA(J)MO.
- AMC scoring
- 1.5 points for an unanswered question, 6 points for correct answer, and 0 points for a wrong answer, over 25 questions
- AIME scoring
- 1 point per correct answer
- USA(J)MO scoring
- Each question is worth 7 points, and a grading team decides how complete the proofs are, scoring appropriately
What exactly is AIME?
And what is after?
The AIME competition series consists of the AIME I and II. However, unlike the AMC tests, you can only take one AIME. Eventually, if the competitor earns a total score higher than the cutoffs, they will qualify to the USA(J)MO.
- AIME I & II
- Qualifies to USAMO if the AMC test taken was an AMC 12
- Qualifies to USAJMO if the AMC test taken was an AMC 10
What is the USA(J)MO?
And what is after?
The USAMO and USAJMO are the olympiad competitions hosted by MAA 60 competitors to participate in the Math Olympiad Programs (MOP), where the top 6 can compete in the International Math Olympiad (IMO).
- USAMO:
- The top 20 participants are able to attempt MOP, and the top 6 MOP participants are allowed to compete in the IMO as part of the USA national team.
- USAJMO
- The top 20 participants are able to attempt MOP, and the top 6 MOP participants qualify for the USAMO the next year.

- AMC 12:

- Leads to the USAMO
- AMC 10:
