A Letter to the Wallet Thief
To whoever may find this note,
If you are in possession of this wallet, that can only mean that you are a desperate thief who thinks they have got the better of me. You have misjudged your target and certainly disrespected a member of your own community. I would say that you probably don’t feel even a shred of shame for your thoughtless actions, dear reader, but all actions have consequences.
Admittedly, you must be a reasonably good pickpocket, as my wallet was particularly well hidden. I have been commuting on the same gruesome journey in this desolate city for more than forty years, to and from work each day, and it has always been with me. Until today… now you have relieved me of it. I always knew you would come and this is why you have found my letter inside.
Therefore, wallet thief, I will strike a bargain with you. If you desire to keep my wallet, then so be it. However, if you do choose this, you must promise to never steal again. Never. Not even for penny sweets. What lies here, in the pockets of this pouch, is everything the city needs for the richest life of wealth and happiness. Take the money and do good with it.
If you hold up your end of the bargain, you shall relearn the value of giving and sharing. If you choose wisely, I know that you too will surely find happiness. There is so much more to this world than you see, waiting to be rebuilt again as it once was. As a community, we have much to overcome and achieve, yet the change can begin with you. All it takes lies within your hands, and what you choose to do next.
Yours,
Someone who hopes you will do better
