The Fox and the Crow – Part Two
“Oh Crow!” Fox called. “You are so beautiful, you know.”
Crow looked down at Fox, cocked her head to one side, and smiled.
“So sleek! So shiny!” said Fox. “Just look at you! You’re black as midnight, glossy and fine.”
Crow fluffed out her feathers. She puffed out her chest.
“Your eyes sparkle like the darkest pearls,” Fox went on.
Crow gazed down at herself. “I am beautiful. I am,” she thought. “No other bird is as beautiful as me…”
Fox saw her swell with pride. He was ready now, to complete his trick.

“I’ve heard you have a terrible croak, though. If only you could sing, then truly you would be Queen of the Birds.” “I should be Queen of the Birds,” thought Crow indignantly. “I can sing! And I’ll prove it.” She opened her glossy black beak. “Caw…Caw…Caw!” she sang.
Down, down, down fell the meat…
…right into Fox’s mouth. SNAP!
He sauntered away with it, smiling.
“Delicious!” he drawled, once he’d gobbled it down. “You really can’t sing, can you?” he added, licking his lips. “And no queen would fall for that trick!”
Moral: Don’t fall for flattery.
