Es el lugar que tiene toda la energía psíquica. La libido es la energía sexual y se rige por el principio de placer. Es una expresión de las pulsiones biológicas y quiere estar satisfecho en el momento. Tiene toda la parte innata, pero está en conflicto con el Yo y el Superyó debido a que se presenta en el momento cuando se necesita o cuando surge. Además parte de las funciones de ello es incrementar el placer, disminuir el dolor y la tensión.

De ahí que cuando existe un comportamiento que vaya en contra de estas reglas el sentimiento de culpa puede aparecer, ya que parte de sus funciones es generar conciencia y limitar algunas acciones.
