• The first trimester is weeks 1-12 of pregnancy
• During the first trimester fertilization, implantation, an embryonic period all happens one after another, eventually leading do the fetus beginning to mature.

• Morning sickness is typical as a result to fluctuating hormone levels in the body of the pregnant person throughout the first trimester. Morning sickness is sometime believed to be a way to prevent a pregnant person from ingesting foods that could be toxic or harmful to the fetus.
• The fetal heart starts beating around week 5 or 6 of pregnancy.

FIRST TRIMESTER

SECOND TRIMESTER

• During the second trimester movement is now consistently felt by the pregnant person from the fetus.
• Sex organs of the fetus are now visible during ultrasounds
• Facial features of the fetus form.

THIRD TRIMESTER

• During the third trimester of pregnancy is when the majority of brain development is seen
• Lungs are able to fully mature by the end of the trimester
• Continued increase of fat allows the fetus to regulate temperature
• The baby is about 7.5 pounds and 20 inches long when born
