Cosa è il CACAO?
II CACAO è una sostanza ottenuta dai semi dell'albero di cacao.Una pianta tipica del cacao é :THEOBROMA => pianta proveniente dall'AMERICA TROPICALE che significata "CIBO DEGLI DEI". L'albero di cacao è un albero sempreverde che produce frutti a forma di capsula chiamati "Cabosse"(frutto della pianta del cacao). All'interno di ogni cabossa si trovano numerosi semi detti "Fave di cacao" immersi in una polpa. Nella lavorazione i semi vengono prima fermentati e essiccati poi tostati,macinati e pressati per separare il grasso dalla polvere.

In che anni arrivo' in EUROPA?
Cristoforo Colombo fu il primo ad avere contatto con il CACAO,solo nel 1502 porto' alcuni semi in Europa,ma non gli diede molta importanza. XVIII anni dopo HERNAN CORTES (Spagnolo) porto' in Spagna il cacao dopo aver visitato la corte di MONTEZUMA. IL cacao,quindi,arrivo' in EUROPA nel 1520 e in ITALIA nel 600. La prima popolazione a produrre maggiore cacao è stata la COSTA D' AVORIO in AFRICA.

Come lo utilizzavano gli Europei?
Il CACAO veniva utilizzato come una bevanda amara con spezie. Successivamente i monaci iniziarono a sostituire alcuni ingredienti con lo zucchero,creando una bevanda piu' dolce.

Se il CACAO non fosse arrivato in Europa dall'America, l'Europa non avrebbe avuto il cioccolato come abbiamo noi oggi,influenzando le sue traduzioni e la storia. La produzione di cacao è una parte importante dell'economia di molti paesi Africani e SudAmericani. Senza il cioccolato Europeo, l'agricoltura di queste regioni si sarebbe concentrata su altre culture.

Il POMODORO è un frutto,che, proviene da un fiore e contiene semi. E' originario del centro America, ma oggi è coltivato in tutto il mondo. Proviene dalla pianta SALANUM LYCOPERSICUM della famiglia SOLANACEE. Contiene vitamina C,D e la E. Esistono numerose varietà tra cui: IL SAN MARZANO,IL CUORE DI BUE,e IL PACHINO. SAN MARZANO:si trova in Puglia in provincia di Taranto, ed è a forma di carota. CUORE DI BUE:si trova nella provincia di Firenze e di Arezzo, ed è a forma di cuore PACHINO:si trova in Sicilia,ed è a forma di cerchio.

La prima introduzione risale circa al 1540,con la spedizione di HERNAN CORTES. I primi pomodori arrivati erano gialli, piccoli e considerati velenosi, perchè appartenevano alla famiglia SOLANACEE. In Italia le prime traccie documentate risalgono al 1548,quando COSIMO DE MEDICI, ricevette una pianta di semi portati dalla Sicilia. La Sicilia sembra essere la prima regione Italiana a conoscere il POMODORO, influenzata dalla dominazione Spagnola. Quindi il POMODORO arrivo' in EUROPA a metà del XVIII secolo (18) e in ITALIA nel 31 ottobre del 1548.
