MILLENIUM BRIDGE
VIDEO
- The millenium bridge was built by Norman Robert Foster, whose team of engineers designed to be an exclusively pedestrian suspension bridge over the River Thames in London, and to connect key cultural and points of interest on the north and south banks of the city.
- It cost mor than 23 millions of pounds to built in 1996
Type of structure:
- This is an artificial and frame structure
- The structure is compossed by cables, iron beams and under it two colums that allows the engineers to build the bridge along the river Thames
Cables
Elements that support tension forces (that tend to stretch an element) provide more resistance to a structure, and are normally made of steel.
Pilars
Vertical elements that transmit the structure's weight to its' foundation, also needs to be made of a material that resist compression forces.
Beams
These elements are placed horizontally. They have to resist bending forces that tend to curve the element.
