Incandescent lightbulb

NICOLE RODRIGUEZ

bACKGROUND

Though Thomas Edison is usually credited as the man who invented the lightbulb, the famous American inventor wasn't the only one created the development of this technology. The light bulb was created in 1879 Edison created his successful version In Menlo Park New Jersey in 1879.

Innovation

The light bulb works by sending electricity through a small wire called a filament, which heats up and glows to make light. Before the light bulb, people used candles and oil lamps that were smoky and could start fires. Edison’s invention helped solve the problem of needing safe and steady light at night.

Impact on life and work

The light bulb changed people’s lives in many ways. It made it possible to work and do activities at night, which made life easier and more comfortable. Factories could stay open longer, which helped the economy grow. It also made homes brighter and safer because people didn’t have to use open flames anymore.

Long-Term Effects

The light bulb led to many other inventions that use electricity, like lamps, radios, and other electric devices. It also helped start the electric power industry. Even though we now use LED and other types of bulbs, Edison’s invention was the start of modern electric lighting, and it’s still very important in history.

Reflection

What surprised me most was that Thomas Edison wasn’t the only person who worked on the light bulb. It took many people’s ideas to finally make one that worked well. I learned that one invention can completely change how people live, work, and use time. Without the light bulb, our nights would still be dark, and we wouldn’t have many of the electric things we use today. Life would definitely be harder and less productive without it.
