what is an inequality ?
An inequality compares 2 values or expressions that are not equal. (You can think of it as an equation where the equal sign is replaced by an inequality symbol.) Since the answer to an inequality is a range of numbers, we call it a "solution set".
- Think about x > 5. If x is greater than 5, then x could be 6....or it could be 21.....or it could be 5.2! There are many possibilities so we have to report a SET of numbers as the SOLUTION to the problem; solution set.
We can graph the inequality on a number line to show the SET (range) of numbers included in the SOLUTION.
