Take time to learn about the featured artist by reading about and watching provided videos about them. Then you will use the FELDMAN METHOD OF ART CRITICISM to complete the assignment. Write a paragraph about your selected artwork. Be sure to include:
- Describe-listing what an art object seems to include.
- Analyze-describing the relationship among the things that were listed.
- Interpret-deciding what your earlier observations mean.
- Judge-deciding whether the artist has been successful in their intention with their artwork.

Option 1
1887-1979
Bernard Leach is known for being the "father of British studio pottery" and for bridging Eastern and Western ceramic traditions through his influential work. He championed the idea of the artist-potter, emphasizing functional, handcrafted pottery and teaching that ceramics could foster cultural unity and appreciation for craftsmanship.

If you are selecting a different artist for AT, include the selected: Artist name Title of work Year it was created Source (website where art was found) NOTE: This must be a professional artist's work. Write a paragraph that includes a few sentences for each:

Option 2
STUDENT CHOICE
Search and select an example of a professional artist's ceramic or sculptural artwork that inspires you.
With your partner, select the work featured in Option 1, or artwork of your choice as in Option 2. Together, observe and discuss the artwork. Fill out the Artful Thinking paper form. On the form provided, one of you will write down your and your partner's observations. Write a paragraph with a few sentences for each:
- Describe-listing what an art object seems to include.
- Analyze-describing the relationship among the things that were listed.
- Interpret-deciding what your earlier observations mean.
- Judge-deciding whether the artist has been successful in their intention with their artwork.
When you are done, you will both take a photo of the completed paper form and submit it to your own Canvas account for credit. If you have selected a different artwork to write about, add a screenshot/photo of the artwork you have seleceted so that I can see what you are writing about.
Option 3
WORK WITH A PARTNER
Two students may WORK TOGETHER to complete Option 1 or Option 2. Follow instructions as this option requires a PAPER FORM for collaborative work.
Option 4
DRAW IT OUT
On a 11 x 17 sheet of paper (provided by Ms. Land) create a drawing of the artwork you have selected (use class group poster as example). Artist name Title of work Year it was created Source (website name where art was found) DESCRIBE: Label its descriptive elements. OR ANALYZE: Write about why you selected it, what stood out, what it makes you think about. OR JUDGE: Ask a question to your observers about the success of the communicated ideas or intentions of the depicted art work. Upload a picture of your drawing into Canvas.
