Hobo Signs
People responded differently to the hobo population, some with violence. Hobos created a secret method to communicate to their fellow travelers to help them on the road and in the unfamiliar towns they would pass through.
Tramp Writing
To communicate to anyone who cared, hobos and tramps would leave tramp writing, or their call sign, on rail cars or fences to let people know who they were were, the date, and the direction they were headed- even how they were doing! What would your tramp sign be? Leave it on the tree stump!
