Day and Night Mythology

I chose Japanese Mythology and they were from Asia.

A long time ago, a very powerful god named Izanagi and goddess Izanami had three children. Amaterasu, goddess of the sun, Tsukiyomi, god of the moon, and Susanoo, controlled the seas and storms.One day Amaterasu sent Tsukiyomi on a quest to see Uke-Mochi the goddess of food, to bring back news of her big feast. When he arrived Uke-Mochi wanted to honor him but instead of cooking she magically made food by spitting and vomiting it out, Tsukiyomi was terrified, So he felt so angry and insulted with rage he killed Uke-Mochi without a second thought. When he returned home he told his sister what happened. She became so angry, she said she would never look at him again. From that moment on the Sun and moon were separated.

The heavens floated above a sea of mist. Some of the elder gods wanted to have land, so they sent two young gods and goddesses, Izanagi and Izanami . The two kids had a jeweled spear and stirred the seas and lifted it, little drops fell and hardened and created Japan.Izanagi and Izanami wanted to live on the new land so they built a big palace, and gave birth to the spirits of nature- wind, rivers, mountains and forests. But when they gave birth to fire, Izanami got killed by the flames. Izanagi went to the land of the dead to bring her back but he did not want to see his wife in changed form so he left. When he came back he went into the river to cleanse himself and his tears created new gods like Amaterasu. The Japanese believed through love, loss, and renewal, a spirit was born.

Sapporo Snow Festival

It’s one of Japan's most popular winter events. It started in 1950, when high school students built a few snow statues in Odori Park. Ever since it developed into a large, commercialized event, featuring spectacular snow and ice sculptures.It takes place one week every February.The Temperature is usually -3.4˚C. They have usually have ramen, and takoyaki and snow slides, snow rafting, and snow mazes

Jantar Mantar

Jantar Mantar was built in 1724 - 1734 by Maharaja Jai Singh II who was passionate about astronomy. Jantar Mantar is a building with no roof, with large geometric structures, and every shape is designed for astromonical purpose. All the instruments the structure had located inside tracked the postitions of the stars as they moved acrross the night sky, the Jai Prakash Yantra could pinpoint where a star was located at anytime, and the Rashivalaya Yantras were designed to observe the twelve Zodiac constellations in the sky.

Day and Night Cycles

Rotation causes day and night cycles. Half of the earth always faces the Sun and is lit by sunlight and there is day, and on the other half it's opposite a full rotation takes approximately 24 hours.
