What managers need to know about
FINANCIAL COACHING
What is the financial coaching training program?
With certified credit union financial counselors on staff, credit unions are better able to:
- Help members experiencing financial difficulties
- Demonstrate the credit union difference
- Attract new members
- Grow product and service revenue
What can learners expect from the program?
The Financial Coaching (FC) Training program is a 12-week learning journey that prepares employees to become Certified Credit Union Financial Counselors. Through a mix of virtual cohort sessions, self-study, and group learning, participants build the knowledge, skills, and confidence to guide members toward greater financial well-being. With structured resources, study guides, and ongoing support, each participant is set up for success as they work toward earning their national FiCEP certification.

Your support as a leader helps make this certification experience meaningful and successful!
As a leader, your encouragement and engagement play a key role in helping your employee succeed in the 12-week Financial Coaching Training program. Here’s how you can support them throughout the process:
Set aside dedicated time for study. Encourage your employee to block regular time each week to complete their assigned readings (for example, every Tuesday from 10 to 11 a.m.). Most participants can complete the weekly readings, typically around 20 pages, in about an hour, though some may need additional time. Stay informed and connected. You will be included in all calendar invitations for training sessions, but it’s helpful for your employee to keep you updated on their progress and any schedule adjustments. Communicate changes promptly. Please notify the Financial Well-Being team of any changes to your employee’s status, such as a location or position change, or attendance for any training sessions so we can track participation accurately. This communication remains important even after the training ends. The Financial Coaching page must stay up to date with the centers that currently have a certified coach so members can accurately schedule sessions. Thank you for helping us build confident, compassionate financial coaches who make a lasting difference in the lives of our members and communities.
