ASK QUESTIONS
A sample list of questions includes such things as:
The best investigations rely on asking the right questions.
- Did the person have a bedroom at the insured's premises?
- Did they keep personal effects there?
- Did they have a key to the residence?
- Did they pay rent or contribute to the monthly expenses?
- Where did they get their mail?
- Where did they go after being released from medical care to convalesce? Who's residence?
It is crucial to note that investigating residency is often as much art as science. There is no roadmap that will apply to EVERY residency investigation. You will need to follow where the evidence leads and pay attention to the information given to determine what other information may be needed.
"Research is formalized curiosity. It is poking and prying with a purpose."~Zora Neale Hurston
When faced with a question of residency, a good Claims Adjuster should gather as much evidence and information as possible at an early stage in order to ensure a fair and equitable determination.
