To form comparatives and superlatives we need to know the number of the syllables in the adjective: 1. Big: (1 syllable) SHORT adjective 2. Happy: (2 syllables, adjective ending in "y") SHORT adj3. Beautiful: (2/3 syllables) LONG adjective
