Emilia
Emilia is a young girl born to a Palenquero father and a Wayúu mother, who lived in Malambo, a marginalized town on Colombia’s Atlantic Coast. Due to an electrical failure—caused by unsafe practices—she experienced a fire that claimed the lives of her parents. La Chispa de Emilia (Emilia’s Spark) is an interactive story that follows her journey through the roots of her ancestors. The first edition of the book tells her trip to San Basilio de Palenque, the first free town in the Americas and her father’s birthplace, where Emilia learns how ancestral wisdom can inspire safer and more conscious energy practices in communities. The second edition, to be released in 2026, will narrate her journey to the Wayúu community of her mother.
