La vera forma della Terra è il geoide, una figura che non è una sfera perfetta, ma risulta schiacciata ai poli e presenta irregolarità superficiali.
Questa forma è dovuta principalmente al moto di rotazione del pianeta (da ovest a est) attorno al suo asse di rotazione. Storicamente, si è passati dall'idea di una Terra piatta a quella cilindrica (Anassimandro) fino all'ipotesi sferica (Parmenide), prima che Isaac Newton definisse l'idea di una sfera leggermente appiattita.
L'orientamento
L'orientamento consiste nel capire la propria posizione usando punti di riferimento. Il metodo base è l'osservazione del Sole, che sorge a Est e tramonta a Ovest .
I quattro punti cardinali sono:
Est (sorgere del Sole) .
Ovest (tramonto del Sole). Sud(massima altezza del Sole a mezzogiorno).
Nord (opposto al Sud).
Per orientarsi a mezzogiorno, nel nostro emisfero, basta mettersi con il Sole alle spalle: il Nord sarà davanti. Di notte, nel nostro emisfero, il punto di riferimento è la Stella Polare che indica sempre il Nord. Nell'emisfero australe si usa invece la Croce del Sud per trovare il Sud.

Sistema immaginario formato da paralleli e meridiani che consente di individuare con precisione ogni punto sulla Terra tramite coordinate geografiche (latitudine e longitudine). Paralleli e Latitudine
- I paralleli sono circonferenze parallele all’Equatore, che è il principale e divide la Terra in emisfero boreale (Nord) e australe (Sud).
- La latitudine misura la distanza angolare dall’Equatore (da 0° a 90°) e si indica come Nord o Sud.
- Paralleli importanti: Tropico del Cancro, Tropico del Capricorno, Circolo Polare Artico, Circolo Polare Antartico Meridiani e Longitudine
- I meridiani sono semicirconferenze che collegano il Polo Nord al Polo Sud.
- Il meridiano fondamentale è quello di Greenwich (0°).
- La longitudine misura la distanza angolare da Greenwich (da 0° a 180°), indicata come Est o Ovest. Fusi orari
- La Terra è divisa in 24 fusi orari, ciascuno corrispondente a un’ora.
- L’ora civile di un paese si basa sul meridiano centrale del fuso in cui si trova.
- Il primo fuso orario è centrato sul meridiano di Greenwich.

Il Moto di Rotazione della Terra
Il nostro pianeta compie un movimento costante, ruotando su se stesso da ovest verso est. Questo movimento è chiamato moto di rotazione .
Periodo di Rotazione: Il tempo impiegato per compiere una rotazione completa è chiamato periodo di rotazione, che corrisponde alla durata del giorno. Per la Terra, questo periodo è di circa 24 ore(per la precisione, il giorno solare è di 24 ore e il giorno sidereo, usato in astronomia, è di 23 ore, 56 minuti e 4 secondi).
Effetti del Moto: La rotazione produce effetti facilmente osservabili sulla Terra:
L'alternanza tra il giorno e la notte (luce e buio).
L'impressione che il Sole e le stelle si muovano nel cielo (moto apparente).
Il Cielo Apparente: L'osservazione del Sole e delle stelle che sembrano muoversi è solo un effetto della nostra rotazione. Per gli antichi, era difficile rendersi conto di ciò, e per molto tempo si è creduto che fosse la Terra immobile al centro dell'Universo con il cielo che le girava intorno.

La Forma della Terra: Il Geoide
- La Terra non è perfettamente sferica, ma ha la forma di un geoide, cioè una sfera schiacciata ai poli con leggere irregolarità.
- Newton spiegò questa forma come effetto del movimento terrestre.
- Ipotesi antiche: Terra piatta, poi cilindrica (Anassimandro), infine sferica (Parmenide). I Moti della Terra
- Moto di rotazione: la Terra ruota su se stessa da ovest a est in circa 24 ore, causando giorno e notte e il moto apparente degli astri.
- Moto di rivoluzione: la Terra gira intorno al Sole in circa 365 giorni lungo un’ellisse. Le stagioni dipendono dall’inclinazione dell’asse terrestre (23°27′), non dalla distanza dal Sole.. Punti Chiave del Moto di Rivoluzione
- Solstizio: il Sole è al punto più alto o più basso nel cielo a mezzogiorno.
- 21 giugno: giorno più lungo
- 21 dicembre: giorno più corto
- Equinozio: giorno e notte durano 12 ore.

- 23 settembre: inizio autunno

La vera forma della Terra è il geoide, una figura che non è una sfera perfetta, ma risulta schiacciata ai poli e presenta irregolarità superficiali. Questa forma è dovuta principalmente al moto di rotazione del pianeta (da ovest a est) attorno al suo asse di rotazione. Storicamente, si è passati dall'idea di una Terra piatta a quella cilindrica (Anassimandro) fino all'ipotesi sferica (Parmenide), prima che Isaac Newton definisse l'idea di una sfera leggermente appiattita.
L'orientamento
L'orientamento consiste nel capire la propria posizione usando punti di riferimento. Il metodo base è l'osservazione del Sole, che sorge a Est e tramonta a Ovest . I quattro punti cardinali sono: Est (sorgere del Sole) . Ovest (tramonto del Sole). Sud(massima altezza del Sole a mezzogiorno). Nord (opposto al Sud). Per orientarsi a mezzogiorno, nel nostro emisfero, basta mettersi con il Sole alle spalle: il Nord sarà davanti. Di notte, nel nostro emisfero, il punto di riferimento è la Stella Polare che indica sempre il Nord. Nell'emisfero australe si usa invece la Croce del Sud per trovare il Sud.
paralleli e meridiani
Reticolo geografico Sistema immaginario formato da paralleli e meridiani che consente di individuare con precisione ogni punto sulla Terra tramite coordinate geografiche (latitudine e longitudine). Paralleli e Latitudine - I paralleli sono circonferenze parallele all’Equatore, che è il principale e divide la Terra in emisfero boreale (Nord) e australe (Sud). - La latitudine misura la distanza angolare dall’Equatore (da 0° a 90°) e si indica come Nord o Sud. - Paralleli importanti: Tropico del Cancro, Tropico del Capricorno, Circolo Polare Artico, Circolo Polare Antartico Meridiani e Longitudine - I meridiani sono semicirconferenze che collegano il Polo Nord al Polo Sud. - Il meridiano fondamentale è quello di Greenwich (0°). - La longitudine misura la distanza angolare da Greenwich (da 0° a 180°), indicata come Est o Ovest. Fusi orari - La Terra è divisa in 24 fusi orari, ciascuno corrispondente a un’ora. - L’ora civile di un paese si basa sul meridiano centrale del fuso in cui si trova. - Il primo fuso orario è centrato sul meridiano di Greenwich.

Il Moto di Rotazione della Terra Il nostro pianeta compie un movimento costante, ruotando su se stesso da ovest verso est. Questo movimento è chiamato moto di rotazione . Periodo di Rotazione: Il tempo impiegato per compiere una rotazione completa è chiamato periodo di rotazione, che corrisponde alla durata del giorno. Per la Terra, questo periodo è di circa 24 ore(per la precisione, il giorno solare è di 24 ore e il giorno sidereo, usato in astronomia, è di 23 ore, 56 minuti e 4 secondi). Effetti del Moto: La rotazione produce effetti facilmente osservabili sulla Terra: L'alternanza tra il giorno e la notte (luce e buio). L'impressione che il Sole e le stelle si muovano nel cielo (moto apparente). Il Cielo Apparente: L'osservazione del Sole e delle stelle che sembrano muoversi è solo un effetto della nostra rotazione. Per gli antichi, era difficile rendersi conto di ciò, e per molto tempo si è creduto che fosse la Terra immobile al centro dell'Universo con il cielo che le girava intorno.

La Forma della Terra: Il Geoide - La Terra non è perfettamente sferica, ma ha la forma di un geoide, cioè una sfera schiacciata ai poli con leggere irregolarità. - Newton spiegò questa forma come effetto del movimento terrestre. - Ipotesi antiche: Terra piatta, poi cilindrica (Anassimandro), infine sferica (Parmenide). I Moti della Terra - Moto di rotazione: la Terra ruota su se stessa da ovest a est in circa 24 ore, causando giorno e notte e il moto apparente degli astri. - Moto di rivoluzione: la Terra gira intorno al Sole in circa 365 giorni lungo un’ellisse.
