-What is the purpose for your notes?-What essential question is being asked/addressed? -What format works best for this topic or for your brain? -Paraphrase and pull out key ideas, don't write things word for word!
Review and process
Review and revise your notes:-Underline, highlight, or circle key ideas, words, and phrases -Ask questions about things you don't understand -Delete info you don't need -Group, organize, chunk or classify information
Connect Ideas
Make connections to other ideas:-Things you already know -Information from other classes -Your experiences/life -Your origianl note-taking purpose
Summarize & Reflect
Summarize:-What did you learn? -Answer your essential question from step 1 Reflect: -How will you use this info? -What do you need to do/learn next to make meaning of this information?
Apply what you learned
-Use the notes to studyand complete your assignments-Apply what you learned to new situations, in different classes, etc
