Pumpkins
The main and most well-known symbol of Halloween is the pumpkin carved in the shape of a skull. It is also called Jack’s lantern. This symbol comes from the ancient Celts, who made lanterns from turnips to scare away evil spirits. In the United States, turnips were hard to find, so they were replaced with pumpkins. The first lanterns appeared as early as 1837.
