It All Started When...

Welcome to the first day of Woods 1 - get ready for a class full of learning, hands-on projects, and... safety spookiness???

The bell rings, and your class files into the woodshop — but something feels… off. The air smells like burnt sawdust, and the shop lights flicker. Ms. Sokup and Ms. Gough's prized project, the Craftsman’s Key, has gone missing! According to legend, the key was crafted from the first-ever piece of wood cut in this shop — and without it, the tools of the trade begin to “lock themselves” as a curse of neglect and unsafe practice takes hold. The only way to stop the curse and “unlock” the shop again is to prove your worth as safe, smart craftspeople. You’ll need to solve every safety puzzle to earn fragments of the Craftsman’s Key. You have 25 minutes before the curse seals the tool cabinets forever. Work together. Think safely. And remember… measure twice, solve once.

Creepy Color Codes

As you step deeper into the woodshop, the flickering lights suddenly flash bright blue — then yellow — then red — then green — before dimming again. The class exchanged uneasy glances. Something hums from the far side of the room. On the main workbench, you find a metal lockbox with four colored buttons: Red, Yellow, Green, and Blue. Above it, a handwritten note is taped to the wall: “Only those who remember the meanings of color can control the chaos of the craft.” Beside the note, the Safety Poster you’ve seen since day one in shop class is partly torn — but you can still make out words like Danger, Caution, Safety, and Special. It dawns on you: these aren’t just colors… they’re the universal safety signals used in every workshop. If you want to open the box — and earn your first fragment of the Craftsman’s Key — you’ll need to press the buttons in order from the most hazardous to the safest meaning.

Terrifying Tool ID

With a satisfying click, a lockbox in the corner pops open. Inside, you find your first fragment of the Craftsman’s Key — a small piece of aged wood engraved with a faint saw blade symbol. Beneath it lies a note, written in neat block letters: “A craftsman is only as safe as the tool in their hand.” As you read, a mechanical whirrr echoes from across the room. The tool wall — once proudly organized — now flickers with strange holographic images. Some show students using tools perfectly, others… not so safely. One photo even shows a chisel being used as a screwdriver! It seems the curse has scrambled the shop’s memory of proper tool use. The only way to restore order — and earn the next key fragment — is to identify which images show correct, safe technique for each tool. Choose wisely: the cursed tools will only respond to those who show respect for their craft.

Horrific Hazard ID

As the last correct image flashes on the screen, the distorted holograms fade, and the tool wall hums back to life. You hear a faint clink as another fragment of the Craftsman’s Key drops onto the workbench — this one etched with the shape of a hammer. Before you can celebrate, the lights flicker again — this time revealing new messages glowing faintly across the walls and floor. Warning labels, hazard signs, and half-finished checklists appear like ghostly echoes of every shop safety rule you’ve ever learned. On a nearby clipboard, you find a Hazard Report Form that looks partly burned. There are pictures of dangerous woodshop conditions, but no hazards listed next to them. It seems the curse has erased the memory of the hazards themselves. To restore the safety protocols — and earn the next key fragment — you’ll need to correctly identify the hazard in each picture. Once every danger is properly identified, the code to the next box will be revealed. But be careful — mislabeling a hazard might trigger the curse’s warning alarms again…

Petrifying PPE Protocols

With the hazards correctly identified, the warning lights fade to a calm green glow. A drawer at the instructor’s desk slides open on its own, revealing another fragment of the Craftsman’s Key, this one carved with the outline of a safety helmet. Inside the drawer, you find a crumpled safety protocol sheet — but parts of it are smudged and unreadable. Scattered nearby are mismatched pieces of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, close toed shoes, and hair ties. A faint message glows across the workbench: “Only those who wear the craft with care may shape it without fear.” It’s clear what must be done — to break the next part of the curse, you’ll need to learn about PPE and apply what you know to keep your fellow classmates safe by identifying which of them are following PPE protocols.

Lurking Label ID

As the final student is outfitted with proper PPE, a low hum echoes through the shop. The safety cabinet unlatches with a click, revealing another fragment of the Craftsman’s Key, this one marked with a tiny engraved warning symbol. Inside the cabinet, however, all the bottles, cans, and containers look wrong — their labels are faded, swapped, or missing altogether. A jar of wood glue is marked “flammable,” while a can of finish reads “safe to drink” in smeared ink. The curse has scrambled the shop’s safety signage! Taped to the inside of the door is a weathered tag that reads: “Only those who can read the signs of the trade may continue the craft.” To lift this part of the curse, you’ll need to examine each label to decipher which hazards apply to that product. Be careful - one wrong move and the whole shop could go up in flames!

Bloodcurdling Cleanliness

The last label clicks into place, and the cursed safety cabinet glows faintly before falling silent. From inside, you recover the final fragment of the Craftsman’s Key — smooth, polished, and engraved with the word “Respect.” Just as you begin to piece the fragments together, the entire shop trembles. Sawdust swirls through the air, scrap wood slides from benches, and the lights dim once more. A voice — calm but firm — echoes through the room: “A true craftsman leaves no trace of chaos behind.” All around you, the shop is in disarray: tools left out, spills on the floor, scraps littering the tables. It’s clear — the curse won’t lift until the workshop is returned to perfect order. To complete the Craftsman’s Key and unlock the shop for good, you must follow proper cleanup and maintenance protocols — organizing tools, identifying cleaning zones, and restoring the workspace to safe condition. Only when the shop is clean, safe, and ready for the next maker will the Craftsman’s Key shine once more.
