URBAN DEVOPLMENT
Berlin is considered a “green city” not just for recycling, but also for its green areas: about 27% of the city is declared usable public or agricultural green space, with 2.500 parks, gardens and woods.
PUBLIC TRANSPORT
Berlin promotes sustainable mobility by promoting the use of bikes, walking and an efficient public transport system, with 170 underground stations and a wide bus network that has brought to a significant reduction of traffic and pollution.
INFRASTUCTURES
Architects have designed eco-friendly buildings in areas where the Berlin Wall stood and in other areas with untamed terrain.
One of these is Reichstag palace, which utilises solar panels as its main source of energy.
EDUCATION
To promote sustainability and to educate children on being environmentally conscious, Berlin schools encourage the supplementation of environmental education as a subject.
