A sanitary landfill is a carefully constructed and maintained waste disposal site that must comply with all state and federal laws regarding waste management. Not all types of waste are accepted at all sanitary landfills. Most landfills only accept municipal waste, or the waste generated by you and I and most small business. It is mostly paper, cardboard, food waste, yard waste, and plastics.
Sanitary Landfill
A dump is just that: a hole or an open space where people illegally leave their unwanted things. Things like used tires, old or broken furniture, broken appliances, construction/ demolition waste, and trash. The site could be filled with unknown hazards like bropken glass or harmful chemicals. Disposing of trash or unwanted items in a dump is considered littering and is illegal in Pennsylvania.
