circulatory system

The circulatory system's main job is to transport oxygen, nutrients, and other important things throughout the body. It also removes waste products like carbon dioxide from cells.

circulation

ThE MOVEMENT THE BLOOD MAKES ALL AROUND OUR BODY IS CALLED CIRCULATION. THERE ARE TWO TYPES. BOTH CIRCULATIONS END UP IN OUR HEART.

pulmonary circulation

systemic circulation

OUR HEART PUMPS OXYGEN-RICH BLOOD TO ALL OUR BODY

OUR HEART PUMPS BLOOD LOW IN OXYGEN TO OUR LUNGS.

THE HEART

The heart is a muscular pump about the size of your fist. It has 4 chambers and beats about 100,000 times per day, pumping blood throughout your body. YOUR HEART PUMPS ABOUT 40,000 Gallons OF BLOOD A DAY!

HEART PARTS

YOUR HEART IS DIVIDED IN TWO SIDES: ONE RIGHT AND ONE LEFT.The right side takes in oxygen-poor blood and pumps it out to the lungs. The left side takes oxygen-rich blood from the lungs and pumps it out to the body

heart movements

systole: your ventriles contract to pump blood to every part of your body. dyastole: your atria relax and fill in with blood coming back from the lungs or your body.

1Arteries

BLOOD VESSELS

Carry oxygen-rich blood away from the heart to the body.

Blood flows from the heart through the blood vessels to every part of our body. They are like a highway.

2Veins

Carry blood back to the heart

3Capillaries

Connect arteries and veins and allow nutrients and oxygen to pass into cells

What's in the blood

Blood contains red blood cells that carry oxygen, white blood cells that fight infection, platelets that help blood clot, and plasma, the liquid part of blood.

Interaction with the respiratory System

Blood picks up oxygen in the lungs and delivers it to all body cells.

Then it picks up carbon dioxide waste and returns it to the lungs to be exhaled.

Interactions with the digestive system

The circulatory system...

After you eat, the digestive system breaks down food into nutrients. The circulatory system then transports these nutrients from the small intestines to all the cells in your body where they're needed for energy and growth.
Did you know the small intestine is 20-23 feet long?!

Interactions with the skeletal system

The Skeletal System...

Babies are born with about 300 bones, which fuse together to form the 206 bones of an adult skeleton
The bone marrow produces red blood cells. The ribcage protects the heart.

Interactions with the excretory system

The Excretory System...

If one kidney fails, the other can grow in size by up to 50% in about two months to take over the full workload
-Cleans the blood of waste produced by all other systems

Interactions with the musculatory system

The Musculatory System...

Provides cardiac muscle to the heart And Provides smooth muscle for the veins and arteries
When we sleep, our muscles release growth hormone, which helps them repair and build muscle tissue. So get good sleep!
