Antecedent Interventions
Differential Reinforcement
Differential reinforcement: Putting one behavior on extinction and reinforcing different behaviors (Newcomb and Hagopian, 2018)
High-probability (high-p) instructional sequence: A series of instructions the learner is likely to complete, presented immediately before the target instruction (Wilder et al., 2010)
Differential reinforcement of alternative behavior (DRA): Alternative response is selected and reinforced when it occurs, and target problem behavior is put under extinction (Newcomb and Hagopian, 2018)
Noncontingent reinforcement (NCR): Reinforcement responsible for maintaining problem behavior is delivered independent of response during variable times of treatment (Newcomb & Hagopian, 2018; Wilder et al., 2010)
Functional communication training (FCT): A DRA procedure that reinforces communication to access the same reinforcer previously maintaining the problem behavior (Newcomb and Hagopian, 2018)

Objectives
1. Accurately categorize terms and definitions as either 'Differential Reinforcement' or 'Antecedent Intervention' with a minimum of 80% accuracy across 9 trials. 2. Accurately categorize scenarios as either ‘Differential Reinforcement’ or ‘Antecedent Intervention’ with 100% accuracy across 3 trials.
Sarah used to blurt out answers in class. Her teacher began ignoring that behavior and rewarded her for raising her hand with attention and stickers. Over time, Sarah learned to raise her hand and stopped blurting out.
Billy’s mom asks him to sit on the carpet, but he usually doesn’t listen. This time, she first gives him simple tasks like jumping and touching his toes, praising him each time. After that, she tells him to sit, and Billy follows the instruction
When iPad time ended, Tim threw tantrums to get it back, and his mom would give in. To change this, she scheduled iPad access times and stopped giving it during tantrums, placing the behavior on extinction. Tim throws tantrums to get access to the iPad less frequently.
