Marketing That Works
After watching the video, answer the questions to review the main ideas about promoting small businesses on social media.
What is the first thing Jamal says you should identify before promoting your business on social media?
What is the difference between short-term and long-term goals in social media marketing?
How can a business decide which social media platform to use?
What does Jamal mean when he talks about targeting a user’s “persona”?
Why is it important to track your social media performance, and what tools does Jamal recommend for that?
Your Brand, Your Strategy
Instructions:
- Work in groups of 3 or 4.
- Choose a small business idea (for example: a coffee shop, handmade jewelry brand, gym, or pet store).
- Discuss and decide:
Who is your target audience? What is your main goal (e.g., increase brand awareness, get more engagement, or drive sales)? Which social media platform would you use and why? What kind of content would you post (videos, images, stories)? What call to action (CTA) would you include? 4. Prepare a 1–2 minute group presentation explaining your plan. Use the key vocabulary from the lesson when speaking.
Example Answer – “Green Sip Café” Business name: Green Sip Café Type of business: Eco-friendly coffee shop Our target audience is young adults and professionals who care about the environment and enjoy healthy food options. Our main goal is to increase brand awareness and get more engagement on social media. We would use Instagram and TikTok, because our audience spends a lot of time there and loves short, visual content. Our content would include short videos showing how our drinks are made, photos of our eco-friendly cups, and stories highlighting customer experiences. Our call to action (CTA) would be “Bring your reusable cup and get 10% off!” We hope this strategy helps us reach new customers and build a community that supports sustainability.

The Product Launch Plan
Emma: Hey Ryan, before the release date, I need you to give the brochure a once-over. We don’t want any typos. Ryan: Sure, Emma. I’ll look it over right after the meeting. By the way, what’s our game plan for the soft launch next week? Emma: We’ll start with a small group of clients to get things straight before the hard launch. Ryan: Sounds good. The tech team is really tech-savvy, so they’ll handle the demo easily. Emma: Great! Also, the guest lecturer confirmed for the event — she’s a real people-person with a positive demeanor. Ryan: Perfect. I’ll send a requisition for extra materials today. I’m sure the whole team will exceed expectations this time.
