Take a few deep breathes, and walk away, if needed. Waiting until you've both had time to calm down and think about the situation can make a huge difference. Coming back later makes it easier for both parties to talk about a disagreement.
Be honest and say "I'm sorry" when needed.
Find a solution or ask for help from a trusted adult.
Think about what you could have done differently or better.
Say “I feel…” instead of "You..."

Sam (calmly): Hey, Casey, I feel stressed when the room’s messy. Can we clean it together for a few minutes? Casey (shrugging but calm): Yeah, I guess I can help. I just hate cleaning. Sam (smiling): Same! Let’s set a timer for 10 minutes and see how much we can do. Casey (grinning): Deal. Then we can chill after. They start picking things up together. The room looks better, and both smile.
Sam (frustrated): Casey, this room is a disaster! You never clean up your stuff! Casey (rolling eyes): I’ll do it later. Stop bossing me around. Sam (snapping): You always say that! I’m tired of picking up after you! Casey (yelling): Then don’t! It’s my side of the room, not yours! Sam (grabbing a pillow): Fine! Maybe I’ll just throw everything on your bed! They glare at each other and walk away. Scene ends with tense silence.
A resolution is finding a peaceful solution.
A conflict is a disagreement between people.
