Chi è Simon Pietro. Secondo la tradizione, sarebbe succeduto all’apostolo Giacomo il Minore come vescovo di Gerusalemme dal 62 al 107, anno in cui, sotto l’imperatore Traiano, avrebbe subito il martirio a Pella, ove si era rifugiato con la sua comunità.
Quanto alle modalità del martirio, esistono versioni differenti. Quella più diffusa, particolarmente atroce, e alla quale fa riferimento la maggior parte dell’iconografia, vuole che Simone sia stato segato in due.
