CHARITIES THAT FIGHT AGAINST THE RACISM

MARIO BUZÓN DOMÍNGUEZ 4ºA

NATIONALLY:

SOS RACISM (SAN SEBASTIAN):

SOS Racismo is a Spanish organization that works to defend the rights of immigrants and minorities. It offers legal help, organizes awareness campaigns, and gets volunteers to support people who suffer discrimination. Their goal is to build a country where everyone can live with dignity and without fear. They believe education and solidarity will end racism little by little.

MOVEMENT AGAINST INTOLERANCE:

Created in 1991, this organization promotes tolerance and peace in Spain through workshops, school programs, and campaigns that have people reflect on empathy and respect. It believes that violence and hate can be replaced with dialogue and understanding, and that education will always be the best way to stop racism.

INTERNATIONALLY:

BLACK LIVES MATTER (USA):

Founded in 2013 after the death of Trayvon Martin, Black Lives Matter became a global movement for justice and equality. It got millions of people to protest against police violence and to demand justice for victims like George Floyd and Breonna Taylor. The movement shows that every Black life must be respected and will keep inspiring change everywhere.

AMNESTY INTERNATIONAL (GLOBAL):

Amnesty International works in over 150 countries to defend human rights and fight discrimination. It helps victims, publishes reports about injustice, and gets governments to change unfair laws. Their actions show that justice can protect everyone and that equality must always be defended.

Persuasive email

Dear Mayca, How can we stay silent when racism still hurts so many people? It makes me feel deeply unhappy and furious to see others treated unfairly just because of their skin tone, culture or country. We must open our eyes. We can’t let discrimination continue in our schools, jobs, or streets. We have to encourage others around the world so we can have a change. We can have posters made and get people to join our campaign for equality. Imagine how powerful it would be if we all stood together as one strong, caring community. Don’t you think it’s time to make a real change, Mayca? Together, we can build a brighter, fairer future for everyone. With hope, Antonio.

RACISM

Social issues are problems that affects a group of people. We know the most negative like unemployment, gender equality, racism...We are going to talk to you about the last one. Racism is discrimination based on the belief that one race is superior to another. Some facts are that in 2024, racism incidents raised a 33% and the 80% of the victims didn't report because of fear, social media is belief that helps reducing speechs of discrimination and an 8% of these racist speechs are ironic.

QUIZ

Racism remains a major problem in many countries. Around 34% of adults say that discrimination is a very serious problem, and that it has worsened in 70% of countries. In the United Kingdom, 89% of teenagers have seen or experienced racism, mainly at school or on the internet. In the United States, 64% of adults believe that racism against black people is still common. Racism also affects health and education, as people of color tend to receive worse treatment. However, more and more schools and institutions are talking openly about racism, which gives hope for the future. These figures may be shocking, but knowing them helps us to better understand the problem and motivates people to create a more just and equal society.

WAYS FOR HOW PEOPLE CAN HELP?

1.- GET THE KNOWLEDGE We must get people to learn about racism and how it hurts others. They could have videos or talks explain the importance of respect and equality.

2.- BE LOUD We could get people to speak about racism on social media and in public. They might share stories or videos to raise awareness. If more people talk about it, others won’t ignore the problem anymore.

3.- USE #HASTAGS We must get people to put hashtags like #blacklifesmatter or #noracism on social media with all our accounts to raise awareness. If people see that lots of them uses it, they won't shut up and speak loudly.

4.- FIND YOUR FRIENDS We need to get our friends to make the things that we said earlier, and they will speak to their friends, and so on and so forth until the message reaches everyone, that will help to reduce the racism. 5.-BE CREATIVE People could make art, music or T-shirts with messages against racism and sell them. They could also do a charity concert, a sports game, or a bake sale to collect money to help organizations that fight racism. 6.- MAKE A COMMITMENT People could promise to always speak up when they see racism. They can join groups that fight for equality, go to events, or sign petitions. They can also learn more about the problem and teach others to do the same.

CELEBRITIES THAT FIGHT AGAINST THE RACISM

MARIO BUZÓN DOMÍNGUEZ 4ºA

1.- LEWIS HAMILTON: In 2020, Lewis Hamilton led the fight against racism in Formula 1, showing his support with messages like “Arrest the cops who killed Breonna Taylor.” He got his Mercedes team to paint the car black as a symbol of equality and created the Hamilton Commission to help more Black people work in the sport. For him, this is a “fight for life” that must continue until everyone has the same opportunity.

2.- JK. ROWLING: J.K. Rowling defended the Black actress Noma Dumezweni, who played Hermione in Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, and reminded fans that Hermione could be any colour because the books never said she was white. Her choice got people to think about diversity and respect in culture, showing that stories could teach inclusion.

3.- LILIAN THURAM: After finishing his football career, Lilian Thuram founded the Fondation Thuram, ‘’Éducation contre le racisme’’, giving talks in schools and clubs to promote equality. He believes racism is not natural, people learn it, so they can unlearn it, and education will make minds more open.
