Crossover Recap

What is Crossover?

Crossover is when the academic year dates cross through 2 award years.

  • Crossover periods have an impact on what needs to be completed prior to packaging.
    • Crossover may involve extra steps when handling a student file.
    • Be thorough reviewing student files - ensure awards are accurate and all documents are complete.

2.16.2026 & 3.2.2026 Starts

2026-27 Crossover

2026/27 FAFSA is not required for packaging.

    • If a student needs crossover aid due to exhausted eligibility, a 26/27 FAFSA will be needed but does not have to be on file to package.
    • Set Award Year 2 Packaging Status to 200 – Crossover FAFSA Needed when packaging.

We will begin importing 26/27 ISIR's ... Mid Feb?

If FAFSA is on file:

    • 26/27 FPP site is live to check completed FAFSA's
    • Award Year 2 Packaging Status only needs to be updated if the AY is crossover eligible
    • Clear all conflicting info and submit ISIR corrections.
    • Verification docs do not need approval before packaging.
    • If all docs are on file, submit corrections, but ISIR is not required before packaging.

For Crossover aid with VLI:

    • Advise students that credit balance may not occur until 2nd semester after 26/27 ISIR is on file and Pell is awarded.
    • Use 26/27 estimated aid as placeholder for crossover Pell amount is based on 25/26 SAI & Pell eligibility.

2026-27 Crossover

Impacted Starts: 3.23.2026 and beyond

Students starting 3/23/26 and later:

    • Must complete both 25/26 and 26/27 FAFSA until further notice.
    • 2nd semester falls in 26/27, so Pell for that term comes from 26/27.
    • Loans come from 25/26 since AY/Loan Period began in 25/26.
      • Exception: BBAY1 students—second term loans from 26/27 only.
    • Clear conflicting info and have a valid ISIR before packaging.
    • Verification must be approved if selected.

We will begin importing 26/27 ISIR's ... Mid Feb?

    • 26/27 FPP site is live to check completed FAFSA's
    • Award Year 2 Packaging Status only needs to be updated if the AY is crossover eligible

Awarding Crossover Pell

26/27 Pell Amounts

Maximum and Minimum Pell Grant amounts will remain the same for the 26/27 Award Year!

Min Pell

Calculated Pell

Minimum Amount: $740

Maximum Pell minus SAI = Cal. Pell Eligibility

Max Pell

Maximum Amount: $7395

*Amounts may be subject to change

Year-Round Pell vs Crossover Aid

For teams it may affect: Re-Entry & CSF

As a reminder, enrollment status is no longer a requirement to award Year-Round Pell

Year-Round Pell is now awarded based on the student's enrollment intensity in the term

Example: A student who is enrolled for 4 credits would receive YRP based off the 33% enrollment intensity percentage

When to award 26/27 Estimated Aid?

Reminder

New Students:

Students starting before the 3/23/2026 start will likely not need 26/27 estimated aid at this time unless:

  • They have used 100% or more of their 25/26 Pell at another institution or another enrollment at UMA

Example: Student is in an Open Loan Period with used eligibility or Re-enroll or Re-entry student who used 25/26 Pell in prior enrollments

Example: Crossover Aid

Key Takeaways

The Academic Year and/or terms for the student MUST fall in two Award Years (25/26 & 26/27) and be eligible for Title IV aid to receive 26/27 estimated Pell.

All 25/26 Pell (150% - YRP) must be exhausted before you can add crossover aid.

26/27 Estimated Pell will be added using the "EstAid" placeholder and amounts based off Enrollment Status and 25/26 Pell Determination.

26/27 Estimated Aid can only be awarded in the crossover eligible term.

The disbursement date for the Estimated Aid for terms beginning in 25/26 Award Year but ending in 26/27 will be 7/1/2026.

Starting with the 3/23 start, BOTH 25/26 and 26/27 FAFSA's are required for students.

Questions?

Reminder:

For the 25/26 Award Year if the student hasn't used 150% of their Pell Eligibility, we must exhaust the full 150% before moving on to awarding crossover aid.

Support Tip:

  • The second term falls solely in 26/27 and can only be awarded out of that award year.

The student's 1st term falls in both Award Years making crossover eligible, however, since the student has not exhausted all the 25/26 aid (only 44.0027%), that must be used in the first term.

1st term: 2603E - 3/23/26-7/5/26

2nd term: 2607E -7/6/26-10/18/26

Reminder:

For the 25/26 Award Year if the student hasn't used 150% of their Pell Eligibility, we must exhaust the full 150% before moving on to awarding crossover aid.
