Writing

Pronouns & Writing.

What is a pronoun?

A pronoun is a word that replaces a noun. Without pronouns you have to repeat the same nouns over and over

again.

Example:

Louise said that Louise was going to call Louise’s mother.

Louise said that she was going to call her mother.

Antecedent

Every pronoun has a noun that comes before it.

The word we use for that is antecedent.

An antecedent is something that comes before

something else.

Pronouns must agree with the antecedent in gender

and in number.

Practice! Decide if the pronouns agree with the

underlined antecedent.

The boy had blue socks. She wore them every day.

The cats like to meow. It does it everyday.

I can’t find my books. Have you seen him?

Gene and Tina are my best friends. They are nice.

Writing

- Life experiences vary from person to person.

- One event is not less impactful than another.

- Events can be big or small.

- Life experiences go beyond daily tasks.- Identify which events can be considered a life experience.

This unit’s writing focus in a life experience narrative.

You can write about a real experience or a made-up one.

Think about the memories you reflected on in the last

section. Start brainstorming about what kind of story

you will tell today. Will you write fiction or nonfiction?
