Trick-or-treating, carving pumpkins, these are some things that come to mind when people think of Halloween. But did you ever wonder where these spooky traditions started? Halloween dates back 2,000 years, to a group called the Celts. The Celts would gather to celebrate the end of the harvest season. They had big feasts and swapped scary stories. During the 8th century, people began celebrating All Hallows' Day, on November 1. The night before became known as All Hallows' Eve, which was later shortened to Halloween. But centuries ago, kids in Ireland and Scotland used to play pranks on Halloween. A popular prank was to carve up turnips, put candles inside, and place them along roads to scare travelers. When immigrants came to the United States, they continued the tradition. But they used pumpkins instead of turnips because they were easier to find.By the late 1930s, Halloween pranks had become a big problem in many places in the U.S. Kids would cause mischief in their neighborhoods, knocking over mailboxes, damaging houses, and even tipping over cows! To stop this people started bribing kids with all sorts of treats--from candy and coins to toys--so they would leave their houses alone. By the 1960s, dressing up in costumes and going door-to-door collecting goodies had become a popular Halloween tradition for kids across the country.

Charlotte Moger!!
I have asked Charlotte some questions And these are her responses
5.) When a lot of tests are nearing I always make sure to give myself enough time to focus and study in classes and at home. I then like to practice and make sure I'm completely ready before a busy day of testing. -Charlotte 6.) I love to have an organized schedule and make sure that I don't try to do more that I can handle. I make sure that the important things are always the priority such as my academics -
1.) The most proud thing that I have done in school would be when I received the Good Citizenship award.-Charlotte. 2.) I've achieved a balance between doing well academically and in playing several sports.-Charlotte 3.) If I could give advice to my younger self I would tell myself to not be so critical at everything. It's ok when not everything goes your way and you should never be hard on yourself if you don't accomplish all your goals and as long as you've tried your hardest. 4.) If a student was struggling in school I would ask them what was wrong and I would try to be a good listener and help them.-Charlotte
We leave school and it's dirty but when we come back its spotless. It looks great. Who are the people behind this. It is CUSTODIANS!
Today my friend Luna and I interviewed a custodian. Her name is Angel and she works really hard to keep our school clean for the best environment for us! I first asked it feels when kids don’t clean up after themselves. She told us that they are kids and its understandable, yet most kids do. She recognizes that she is needed for deep cleans around the building. She feels recognized and appreciated! When asked if she stays working late she said sometimes she does! I asked her how early she gets to work and she gets here about 10 after 3. If she could have any job, it would always be a custodian! When we interviewed Angel, she was so kind and sweet! If If you see a custodian, say hi or maybe thank them for what they do for us. Angel, if you read this; thank you so much for letting us interview you! A thanks from us to all custodians, not only her.
and sports and then I join clubs and practice my instrument with other time that I have.- Charlotte 7.) My best study tip is to not wait till the last second to get things done, instead over time do a little at a time and don't do too much work in one sitting. 8.) I love hanging out with friends all the time. On weekends and after school on nights that I can I enjoy hanging out whether it's going to their houses or calling the on the phone.-Charlotte I feel flattered that I was given this opportunity to be the student of the spotlight. I've really enjoyed answering these questions and it's been a pleasure being able to take part in this.

WHBI put up a valiant effort but the QES offense was too much for the WHBI defense to stop. WHBI fell to QES 25-20. Next up on the schedule was QMS v QHS. This was a matchup for the centuries, at least during the beginning. It looked like it was going to need a game winning shot to win by two but QMS shut that idea down by scoring 3 straight to win the game. The final score of this rivalry was 25-19 with QMS with the win. This set up an exciting finale QES v QMS. This was a competitive shootout that gave a nice touch to the night. There were many stars in this championship. One of these leading to the QMS victory, Mrs O'Donnell, she was gliding across the court and was a great teammate helping assist some insane points and getting some good spikes. Though flowers had to be given to the dynamic duo of Mr. Middleton and Mr. Hubert, they were lighting up the scoreboard helping in the effort to seal the win for QMS. Final score of the championship game 25-22 -QMS winning. Though this epic Battle of the Buildings wasn’t about the volleyball, but the fundraising for the late Mrs.Sullivan. In this one night over 16,000 dollars were raised for the Sullivan Scholarship. This amazing night symbolized everything Queensbury school was built for.
On Tuesday October 21 the QMS teachers did an amazing job at the Battle of The Buildings Volleyball Tournament. The crowd erupted as QMS was victorious over the first round against the high school! The championship round took place thereafter in which QMS played against QES. The ground shaking chants of students and staff in the stands was truly remarkable.
A battle of volleyball, though this wasn’t just a regular game. It was a game in remembrance of the late Mrs. Sullivan. There were some middle school students didn’t know Mrs.Sullivan, yet they still found reason to fill the stands, almost passing the maximum capacity. Even though the night wasn’t about the games, but Mrs.Sullivan. The teachers still showed out in the epic battle of the schools. The first match up was one to be remembered; WHBI v QES. In this battle of the elementary school and the WHBI,Christopher Chambers showed out being our choice for the game M.V.P. Though this game was not a blowout even with Christopher Chambers filling up the box score.

Mrs. Deland, an adored chorus and music teacher, said that her most favorite thing to do on Halloween is “Get dressed up with her family and go trick or treating in her neighborhood! She said that after several years of living in her neighborhood, it's nice to see familiar faces as she goes door to door. Although her family doesn't coordinate their costumes, they get excited to see what her son is going to be for Halloween each year. On the other hand, her husband and herself dress up as the same thing every year -Like: CHIPS & SALSA!

The term “brain rot,” Oxford Word of the Year 2024, describes the cognitive decline and mental exhaustion linked to excessive exposure to low-quality online materials, particularly among young people on social media. This article argues that persistent exposure to such content especially on platforms like Roblox can have serious negative effects on mental health and cognitive functioning. Brain rot manifests in various forms, from popular trends beginning in 2010, like Fortnite, to memes such as the 6 and 7 memes. Research from Oxford University indicates that brain rot results in emotional desensitization, cognitive overload, and negative self-image. It is further associated with behaviors like doom scrolling, zombie scrolling, and social media addiction, all tied to psychological distress, anxiety, and depression. These factors impair essential executive skills, such as memory, planning, and decision-making. The relentless stimulation of digital media, often driven by dopamine feedback loops, magnify these negative effects. Entertainment once required active participation, but now digital platforms like TikTok provide instant gratification, promoting a constant search for more stimulating content. For instance, TikTok’s “For You Page” algorithm creates a never-ending cycle of content consumption, causing desensitization and reduced attention spans. This effect is not limited to social media; video games contribute as well. On Roblox, a popular gaming platform, the majority of users are young teens early 2025 data shows about 39% are age 13 or under. The significant concern is that the most popular Roblox games lure young users into repeated engagement, reinforcing brain rot. In summary, high exposure to social media and its low-quality content at early ages can cause severe, sometimes permanent, mental health and cognitive issues. It is advised that such exposure be minimized until the brain matures, and then only in limited doses.

EXPRESS KINDNESS
-Mark Twain
“Kindness is the language which the deaf can hear and the blind can see.”
When kindness day happened it was joyous. In the hallways everyone was so respectful to each other. I saw people helping others, people socializing and talking, people just being nice to one another, and everywhere was just a good vibe. Kindness day is when we all come together!
Kindness Day is a day where we all be even more kind to each other than usual. It is when we celebrate being kind to each other and accept each other’s differences. On kindness day we all celebrate each other. Kindness Day is a day all of us can celebrate and should celebrate everyday.
