Main hazards
- Explosion of vials due to liquid nitrogen leakage.
- Injuries, biological exposure, extreme cold, asphyxiation.
📌 Avoid storing in liquid phase unless necessary.
Protective clothing and equipment
- Long-sleeved lab coat.
- Cryogenic gloves.
- Full face shield.
- Long trousers and closed shoes.
Equipment and accessories
- Dewar certified: check for damages.
- Vials: only suitable for cryogenic use. Preferably store in the vapour phase.
- Sealing: resistance up to -196 °C.
Best practices
- Fill vials to a maximum of 85% .
- Disinfect the outside before inserting them.
- Handle with tongs.
- Fill Dewar slowly using a transfer system.
- Decontaminate if leaks occur.
Emergencies
In case of exposure:
- Wash with warm water (≤42 °C).
- Do not rub frozen skin.
- Seek medical attention.
In case of spill:
- Evacuate the area.
- Report the incident.
