Haunting Stories
You and your friend are out trick or treating on Halloween night. You approach a haunted mansion and decide to go in an take a look around...
Before the gates open, you must first answer the question
The first vampire movie was the 1922 German horror film Nosferatu, which means “vampire” in Romanian. The movie was set in Transylvania, a village in Romania. This is why vampires often have a Romanian accent. Although Nosferatu was based on Bram Stoker’s Dracula, the main character in the movie is named Count Orlock. The movie, like the book, became very popular. Today, there are hundreds of books and movies about vampires.
There are all kinds of superstitions about vampires. Some say they sleep in their coffins during the day and only appear at night. In fact, some people believe sunlight can destroy a vampire. Others say the only way to get rid of a vampire is to drive a wooden stake through its heart. If you’re just trying to repel a vampire, it is a common belief that vampires hate garlic as well as crosses. Do you think vampires are real? What if you met a vampire in real life?

Read the clues to find out what order to go Trick or Treating in. Use the clues and the map to help you!
- Trick or Treating officially starts at 6:30 PM. *Except for the Smith household. They start at 7:30 becuase they don't get home until that time.
- The Lawrence family decorates their roof for Halloween. I love going there before I trek across the neighborhoos for the Rudger's family treats.
- I usually dart diagonally across to the Crowley house after Visiting the Wilsons.
- You can't go to the Taylor house in the beginning, becuase they'll talk your ear off and you will have no time to go to other houses. I try to go right before I visit the Schnaider's house.
- The Wilsons leave out their giant bowl of candy on their porch and head to dinner out of town. It makes the most sense to go to their's after the Millers's house, since they are side by side.
- For the Grand Finale, I like to hit up the Schneider's houshold. They always give out giant Reese's.
- The Miller house only participates if they have a pumpkin outside of their house. If they don't I skip it. If they do, I like to go there first!
- That just leaves the Rudgers. They're sweet and have lots of candy so it doesn't matter what time we stop by!

Creating Monsters
There are all kinds of monsters—mummies, zombies, and werewolves to name a few. But perhaps one of the most famous monsters of all is the vampire. In 1897, author Bram Stoker wrote the novel Dracula. It was incredibly popular. It told the story of an undead vampire named Dracula. This vampire used his fangs to bite victims on the neck. Then he drank their blood! This allowed Dracula to continue “living,” even though he had already died.
