Healthy Eating
for kids
Step by Step
Summary
We are a small one-form entry primary school in Surrey, serving a diverse community with varied economic backgrounds, religions, cultures and languages. This project is aimed at Year 1 children using Genially as an interactive resource to encourage student engagement and retention of knowledge.
Rationale
Many children in Year 1 are underperforming in literacy, numeracy and showing poor behaviour and absentiism. Many of these children come to school with an empty stomach and with poor quality packed lunches. This project is designed to support and guide children to make healthy choices and to embed the new Healthy Eating Policy and reinforce the school's ethos.
Many lunchboxes come with little or no nutrition.

Ways a poor diet affects students
A lack of essential nutrients can impair cognitive function such as memory and learning. A diet high in sugar and processed foods can lead to sluggishness and difficulty concentrating. Nutritional deficiencies can hinder the development of executive function skills essential for emotional regulation and can lead to behavioural issues.
