How Ironic

Irony is the use of words to express something other than the literal meaning.

Situational Irony

  • Is when reality contradicts what we expect
    • The unexpected turn of events is often used in stories to achieve specific effects such as humor or conflict.

Verbal Irony

  • This type of irony uses words or phrases that are different from their original meaning.
    • You see this when characters say one thing but mean the opposite.

Dramatic Irony

  • This type of irony happens when characters are unaware of something that the reader or audience already knows.
