Shougang Park
Shougang Park was included in the first batch of pilot areas for the transformation of old industrial areas in urban areas in China, national pilot areas for the comprehensive reform of the service industry, national sustainable development pilot areas, Zhongguancun national independent innovation demonstration areas, national smart city pilot areas and Beijing green ecological demonstration areas. It is the first C40 positive climate model area in China. The official entry of the Beijing Organizing Committee for the 2022 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2016 was a milestone in the development of Shougang Park. In the past six years, Shougang Park has made breakthroughs in urban renewal with its Olympics projects, seized the opportunity of the Winter Olympic Games, focused on “cultural, industrial, ecological and vitality rejuvenation”, and promoted the comprehensive completion of New Shougang Area’s “Three-year Action Plan”. Its infrastructure carrying capacity and environmental quality have significantly improved, high-end elements have quickly gathered and innovation vitality has been initially released. The construction of new landmarks for urban rejuvenation has achieved initial results and positive social responses. Shougang Park has become a classic case of urban renewal driven by the Olympic Movement in the world.
Preface
The 11th International Conference Magnetism and Metallurgy WMM24 will take place in the city of L’Aquila (Italy), from 19 to 21 June 2024. Since 2020, RINA oversees the organization of the WMM Conference series. This edition is organized by RINA Consulting - Centro Sviluppo Materiali in cooperation with the University of L’Aquila.
The conference aims to bring together experts from the manufacturing industry of Soft and Hard Magnetic Materials, alongside electrical engineers from universities, research groups and industry, as well as companies and institutes involved in industrial applications of Magnetic Materials and Electrical Machines.
The WMM Conference showcases the latest development, emerging needs and innovative solutions in the complementary fields of Electrical machines manufacture & application and the Magnetic materials manufacturing industry. In the current industrial landscape, the general trend of “Electrification” stands out as one of the biggest growth opportunities. The energy transition underway is driving significant demand for technologies that facilitate this electrification, which in turn plays a key role in fostering green and carbon-neutral power generation and transmission, thereby reducing global emissions. The electrification of the industrial and transportation systems requires ever more stringent specifications for electrical machines, which brings forth the need for new ideas and solutions in their design, as well as the development and manufacture of higher-quality grades of magnetic materials essential for building the electromagnetic cores of these electric machines.
The primary goal of the WMM conference series is to support this process by convening experts every two years to exchange insights, outline future perspectives and identify necessary efforts along the innovation chain. Of particular focus within the WMM24 agenda is the "Transport Electrification", which aims at reducing transport’s dependency on oil and carbon dioxide emissions, as the decarbonized electricity generation promises cleaner electricity to power electric vehicles (EVs). In addition, the design and production of new classes and grades of magnetic materials, having already improved their performances for the specific application in Electric Motors, Electric Transformers and Electric Generators, emerge as central topics of the WMM24 conference.
My deep gratitude goes to Prof. Jurgen Schneider, Prof. Anthony Moses and Prof. Marco Villani for their help in the preparation of the scientific program, coordinated by WMM24 Program manager Dr. Stefano Cicalè, and to all the International Advisory Committee for their advice and support.
I would like to thank the Industrial Partner and Sponsor of WMM24 Conference, EUROGROUP Laminations, world leader in the design and construction of electrical systems with special focus on the manufacture of rotating electric machines (motors, electric generators). I extend my thanks also to the LTC Group Legnano Teknoelectric Company, Sponsor of WMM24 Conference and world market leader in the production of magnetic cores and laminations for a wide range of transformers and reactors.
Lastly, my heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Cristina Forzanti and Dr. Elisabetta Amici for their precious and ongoing dedication to the organization of the event.
Dr. Stefano Fortunati
