May, Might, Will

Degrees of certainty

EMPEZAR

Might

“Might” is used to express a lower level of possibility than “may.” It suggests that something is less likely to happen than if “may” were used. The negative form is might not or mightn't.For example:“I might go to the store later.” This means that it is possible that the speaker will go to the store later, but it is not certain.“She might be at home.” This means that it is possible that she is at home, but it is not certain.

May

  • “May” is used to express a higher level of possibility than “might.” It suggests that something is more likely to happen than if “might” were used.
  • May is more formal than might.
  • The negative form is may not.
For example:“I may go to the store later.” This means that it is likely that the speaker will go to the store later, although it is still not certain.

+ INFO

Will

We use will to talk about things that we are very sure will happen in the future or plans. For example, if you say “I will go to the store tomorrow,” that means you are very sure you will go or you have already decided to go. We can also use “will” to make promises to others.
