What is This Assignment?

This is an example of what your project could look like! Your question might be different, but you’ll follow the same steps: Ask a question Collect data Use technology to organize your information Create a graph or chart Share your solution Use your creativity and have fun learning about health!

Question and Prediction

My question: How can we design a healthier school lunch that helps our bodies grow strong and gives us energy? My prediction: I think our school lunches have more grains and proteins but not enough fruits and vegetables.

Steps in My Investigation

I looked up the five food groups using MyPlate.gov to learn what makes a balanced meal. I recorded the foods from the school lunch menu for one week. I used a checklist chart to see which food groups showed up each day. I put my data into Google Sheets and made a bar graph. I looked at my chart to see which foods we need more of. I designed a new “Healthier Lunch Tray” using PowerPoint. I shared my results and explained why my lunch design is healthier.

My Tools

Google Sheets – made my bar graph PowerPoint – designed my healthy lunch poster Paper Checklist – to record data MyPlate.gov – to learn about food groups

My Data

What I Found Out And My Idea For a Healthier Lunch

Grains show up the most in our lunches, but vegetables show up the least. That means we can make our lunches healthier by adding more fruits and veggies. Menu: Turkey and cheese sandwich on whole-grain bread (grain, protein, dairy) Apple slices (fruit) Carrot sticks with ranch (vegetable) Low-fat milk (dairy)

What I Learned

Healthy food gives us energy to learn and play. Using charts and graphs helps me see patterns. Technology like Google Sheets and PowerPoint makes it fun to share information. My Conclusion If our school added more fruits and vegetables to lunches, we would have more energy and stay healthier. Eating foods from all five groups strengthens our bodies and helps us learn better!
