The popular legend is a widespread origin story for the discovery and spread of coffee as the beloved drink it is today
Legend has it that a goat herder in Ethiopia named Kaldi once observed his herd full of energy after eating some mysterious berries.
Intrigued, Kaldi decided to try the berries for himself, and experienced a similar burst of energy.
Kaldi shared his discovery with a near by monk, who disapproved at first and threw the berries in a fire.
This discovery from the lucky goats and Kaldi the herder led to the global spread of the drink we love today!
The berries created a pleasing aroma in the fire, leading the monks to intentionally brew it. They found it helped them stay alert during long prayers.
