Project-based learning activity

The Students will create a digital infographic chart about the water cycle. The focus of the chart will be around how the sun is the power house of this cycle.

This activity is for my fourth grade students. This will be an activity for science class. The students will learn about how the water cycle is powered by the sun and controls the entire cycle.

Grade 4: Earth and Space Science E.4.9A: Students will demonstrate an understanding of how the water cycle is propelled by the sun's energy. E.4.9A.1: Develop and use models to explain how the sun's energy drives the water cycle. (e.g., evaporation, condensation, precipitation, transpiration, runoff, and groundwater).

Materials needed: For the teacher: - Grading rubric - Computer - Canva/ Prezi/ Genially - Printer For the students: - Project instructions - Computer - Canva/ Prezi/ Genially - Science textbooks and handouts

Anchor: We will listen and watch the music video to "The Water Cycle Song" by Hopscotch. Task: Show the students an exapmle of the complete project. Directions: The students will be given an article about the water cycle and the lyrics to the song. The students will be then given the directions for the project along with the grading rubric. Student Choices: The students have the choice to complete thir activities on Canva, Prezi, or Genially on their computers. Student Inquiry: Direct students to read through and annotate the article before they begin. (See Info)

Assessment Rubric

This will be scored as a unit assignment. The students will work on the project one class and finish and present it the next day.

Collaboration and Teamwork: Students will work in groups of three. Teacher Coaching and Feedback: I will walk around the room to monitor progress and redierect and answer questions as needed. Student Reflection: Students will write one paragraph afterwards summarizing what they learned and how their team worked together. Public Presentation: The students will show the class their infographics that I will print and hang on the classroom brag wall.
