What is the project?

This will allow students to practice:

Responsibility with technology

Formulating opinions

  • The student will be given a prompt, and asked to give their thoughtful opinion
  • The student will practice using complete sentences, transitions, and forumulating their thoughts and reasoning
  • The student will learn about their digital footprint/identity
  • The student will practice being respectful and responsible online
  • The student will reply to their peers in a discussion board

  • Have breifly begun practicing writing (thoughtfully and with correct structure)
  • Students are familiar with the tool "Padlet"that they will be using for this activity

Write opinion pieces on topics or texts, supporting a point of view with reasons. Introduce the topic or text they are writing about, state an opinion, and createan organizational structure that lists reasons.

How are these elements incoporated into the activity?

1.Anchor: watch a video about digital footprint/digital identity --> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7bRZdUtmH8k 2.Task: provide the students with a checklist of steps to complete the activity 3. Directions: give the students directions so they understand what they are supposed to be learning (from both sets of standards) 4. Student Choices: allow the student to choose their topic to write about 5. Student Inquiry: the students find information about their topic of choice to back up their opinion or argument

How are these elements incoporated into the activity?

6. Collaboration and Teamwork: Students work together on a shared discussion/ Padlet board to communicate their ideas and respond to one another 7. Teacher Coaching and Feedback: The teacher walks around monitoring/ reading over the student's ideas. The teacher also replies in the Padlet discussion. 8. Student Reflection: Students come back the next week to see if they still feel the same about their topic, or see how their opinions have changed based on their peers' responses. 9. Public Presentation: The student can share their opinion with the class (by standing and expressing themselves) including their reflection at the end.
