Communication

Communication is key to any great classroom. It is an essential component to communicate with others in the classroom and share ideas.

Below are a few ways technology can enhance communication in the classroom.

Google Classroom can utililize chat boards to have students share their ideas and comment on each others creations. This can help students not only better understand the concept but, also help them create more quality work. Seesaw is a great way to share student work with others in the classroom and their parents at home. They can explain why they chose to add certain components into their work and others are able to respond back. It is also an effective assesment tool where teacher can give feedback on student work and designs

Kahoot is another great option for communication it provides immediate feedback in a funcompetitive atmosphere for each student to share their thoughts and get a response.

Critical Thinking

There are many ways that critical thinking skills can be embraced through technology in the classroom. The below techniques can be integrated into many different student platforms to foster critical thinking skills.

Critical thinking is an indispensable skill in today’s classroom. While it has always been important, in recent years students have become less inclined to explore new ideas because so much information is already at their fingertips. It is imperative that teachers emphasize the ongoing need for students to think critically about the concepts being taught.

  • Problem solving- Give stduents a specific problem and allow them the freedom to brainstorm and explore possible solutions.
  • Research projects- Allow students to pick a subject that interests them and research innovative solutions to solve a chosen problem.
  • Think Analytically- have students explore data and look for patterns that they reveal.
  • Open-ended activities- Listening to or reading about others viewpoints give students the ability to think critically about their owns opinions and see how they may align to others.

Collaboration

Students must also learn to collaborate with others to be successful. Collaboration is imperative to teach in schools because it helps students develop communication, empathy, and teamwork skills that are essential in everyday life. All professions require people to have the ability to listen, share ideas, and work cooperatively toward a common goal. When students collaborate, they learn to value diverse perspectives, resolve conflicts respectfully, and build upon each other’s strengths. These experiences prepare them for real-world situations where teamwork is critical. Practicing collaboration in the classroom ensures that it becomes second nature when they enter the workforce.

Ways to collaborate

Video Conferencing

Technology has greatly increased the ability to collaborate with others. Now more than ever, students can connect beyond their immediate circle to share ideas, work on projects, and learn from diverse perspectives.

Online Tools
Project collaboration
  • There are many ways for students to collaborate online about projects or even project creation. Some of these may include Canva, Genially or Google Classroom Platform. Students can share ideas, add comments and add creative ideas into their project.
  • Students have an ever growing list of tools and resources to collaborate with others. Some of those include: Quiziz, Google Keep and Google Earth. Students can explore the world without ever stepping foot outside the classroom.
  • Students can talk to anyone in the world and collaborate with them through conferencing apps like Zoom, Google Meet and Microsoft Teams. They can ask questions, share ideas and collaborate in real time

Creativity

Creativity is a core ideal that connects and enhances all the others. You must be creative to make communication, collaboration, and critical thinking truly successful. In order to inspire future innovation, each of these skills must work together, with creativity at the heart of them all. Without it, students may struggle to generate new ideas and develop emerging technologies. Therefore, it is essential for teachers to nurture creativity in the classroom by providing students with opportunities to explore, experiment, and use technology in imaginative ways.

Many of the previously mentioned technologies cannot be fully utilized without the use of creativity. While these tools provide opportunities for collaboration, problem-solving, and innovation, it is the creative application of them that allows students to explore new ideas, design unique solutions, and engage meaningfully with the digital world.
