Mind Maze: Escape the Thinking Traps!

Next

You’re about to step into the shoes of Alex, a student at Lakeland Middle School. Alex is navigating school stress, social media drama, and self-doubt. But there’s a twist: Alex’s thoughts are being hijacked by Thinking Traps—those sneaky patterns that mess with your mindset and your digital choices. Can you help Alex escape?

Alex just got a low grade on a math quiz and posted it on social media: "I’m so dumb. I’ll never get this. Might as well give up."
You see Alex’s post and decide to message Alex privately:"Hey, I saw your post. That quiz was tough, but you’re not dumb. You’ve done great on other assignments—remember your science project?" Alex replies:"I guess... maybe I overreacted."
Alex starts believing he is bad at everything and begins posting more negative stuff online.
Alex remembers doing well on a project last week and decides to update their post:"Struggling with math, but I’m working on it. Any tips?" Friends start commenting with encouragement and study tips to help each other. Alex feels more confident and realizes that being honest online can lead to support—not shame. 🎉 You helped Alex escape a thinking trap and model positive digital behavior. 💬 Reflection: How can sharing your challenges online help build a supportive community?

Alex deletes the post and avoids talking about it. The worry doesn’t go away, and they start spending more time scrolling through other people’s “perfect” posts. They begin comparing themselves and start feeling worse. 📱 This is a common thinking trap: “I’m not good enough.” 💬 Reflection: How can social media sometimes make thinking traps worse? What could Alex do differently next time?

Alex talks to a trusted adult and feels heard. They decide to take a break from social media and focus on studying. Later, they share a post:"Taking a break to focus on school. Mental health matters." Friends respond with support and even share their own stories. 👏 You helped Alex take a healthy step forward—online and offline. 💬 Reflection: Why is it important to talk to someone when you’re stuck in a thinking trap? How can you support others online?

Alex continues posting negative thoughts and doesn’t seek help. Some friends unfollow, and others worry but don’t know what to say. Alex feels isolated and misunderstood. This is what happens when thinking traps go unchecked—especially online. 💬 Reflection: What are the risks of sharing only negative thoughts online? What could Alex do to change their story?
