Mindfulness Mondays

Start your week with calm and positivity!

“Breathe deeply, think clearly, act kindly.”

Every Monday, we’ll practice simple mindfulness activities to help us relax, focus, and feel happier. Let’s begin our journey to calm minds and strong skills! 🌿

Week 1: Mindful Breathing Breathe In, Breathe Out

Close your eyes. Inhale for 5 seconds, hold, exhale slowly.. Focus on your breath. Let your mind rest.

My students start every English lesson with breathing exercises. We use some helpers to breathe properly. My students had some diffilulties with focusing at first tht's why I decided to use online short films.

Mindfulness Mondays at Atatürk Middle School Every Monday, our students start the week with a calm mind and positive energy! As part of our Mindfulness Mondays activity, we practice simple breathing exercises together to relax, focus, and feel more present. This routine helps our students reduce stress, improve concentration, and create a peaceful classroom atmosphere. Our collage, created from photos of these weekly sessions, beautifully reflects our journey toward emotional well-being and awareness. ✨ A calm mind is the key to a happy heart! ✨

Our students learned proper breathing methods and the basics of yoga during physical education class. They had a lot of fun, for some of them it was their first experience. We will continue to practice proper breathing while listening to pleasant music and relaxing at the beginning of the school week.

Mindull Mondays- Week 1

Our Monday began with relaxing LoFi music and breathing techniques. 1. Close your eyes and think of now 2. Take a deep breath, count to 3, let it go 3. Place your palms on the desk, how does it feel? 4. Relax, visualize a calm, happy day!

As part of our Mindfulness Monday Activities, our students make some breathing and concentrating exercises like bubbles and baloons. In these activities, our students carefully, slowly and in a controlled way blow up the bubbles and baloons allowing them to manage their own breath control while also boosting their motivation with a short fun before the lesson

Djordje Krstic Secondary School, Belgrade These fun exercises help students wake up their bodies, get the blood flowing to the brain, feel happier, and connect with classmates through movement. We focus on posture — head, shoulders, spine, and legs — helping children find their best position. Shoulders should be in line with the feet, the spine straight, and the head gently “grow taller.” Then comes the funny part — shoulders turn into “jelly,” which always makes everyone laugh! Students breathe in softly, hold it for four seconds, then exhale slowly. They cross their palms and gently tap their chest to improve circulation in the lungs and brain, while keeping their knees slightly bent. The exercise ends with a “fluffy cat” pose and a big round of applause — a joyful finish that fills the room with smiles and positive energy!

The 5-Finger Gratitude Scan The practice begins with a simple Preparation (30 seconds): Find a comfortable posture, gently close your eyes or soften your gaze, and hold one palm open in front of you. Next, we synchronize with a Slow Breath (30 seconds): Inhale deeply through the nose for four counts, filling the lungs, and then slowly exhale through the mouth for six counts, allowing the body to settle. The core of the exercise is the 5-Finger Scan (3 minutes), where you reflect on five areas of gratitude, deliberately touching your thumb to a specific finger for each one. Start by touching your thumb and thinking of a Person you are grateful for—someone who made you laugh or helped you. Move to the index finger and think of a Place that makes you feel peaceful, breathing into that secure feeling. Next, touch your middle finger and focus on a Sensory Thing you can perceive right now, like a sound or the comfort of your clothes, noticing that simple pleasure. Then, touch your ring finger and acknowledge a Small Accomplishment from recently, recognizing your effort. Finally, touch your pinky finger and hold onto Something to Look Forward To in the near future. Conclude the exercise with a final deep breath, holding the feeling of those five things, before slowly opening your eyes and lowering your hand, starting the day with a grateful and calm mind.

Week 2: What I Feel Today How Do You Feel Today?

🎭 Our Faces Show Our Feelings! 🎭 😄 My face tells my feelings! 😊 You can see my mood on my face! 😁 When I’m happy, my smile shines! 😢 When I’m sad, my smile disappears. 👀 My eyes show how I feel! 🤫 Faces speak without words! 💖 My face is a mirror of my heart! 💃 Emotions dance on our faces! 🥰 Our faces say it all!

TOKİ SECONDARY SCHOOL NAGİHAN'S TEAM - WHAT I FEEL TODAY

Before breathing, many kids have a lot of thoughts. They think about homework, games, or friends. After breathing, their mind feels quiet and clear. It is like a calm lake.Breathing exercises help children focus. They don’t feel tired or bored anymore. They feel ready to learn and play. It is like a "restart" button for their body.Breathing exercises are like a small vacation for the brain. In just three minutes, a child can go from "stressed" to "super calm."

This week me and my students talk about their feelings and what they are grateful for. We have made bracelets for ourselves, members of the family and friends. It is a good way for practising mindfulness.
We also went outside to make autumn mandala.

Great activity for mindfulness! Write how you feel using an emoji! Explore all emotions and describe it with a color!

Let’s ground ourselves by using our senses. Icons: Eye 👁️ | Ear 👂 | Hand ✋ | Nose 👃 | Mouth 👄

Week 3: 5 Senses Grounding Find Calm Through Your Senses

Eye: “Name one thing you can see.” Ear: “Name one thing you can hear.” Hand: “Name one thing you can touch.” Nose: “Name one thing you can smell.” Mouth: “Name one thing you can taste.” Present-moment awareness and stress relief.

Senses Grounding:Find Calm Through Your Senses

As part of our “Happy Minds, Smart Skills: Building Life Competences Through Well-Being” project, we carried out the Senses Grounding: Find Calm Through Your Senses activity in our classroom — and the students absolutely loved it! During the activity, students explored their five senses through fun and interactive exercises. They observed what they could see, hear, touch, smell, and imagine. This simple but powerful mindfulness activity helped them stay present, relax, and become more aware of their surroundings. The classroom was filled with excitement, curiosity, and laughter as students shared what they discovered using their senses. It was a wonderful opportunity for them to practice calmness, focus, and emotional awareness in an enjoyable way. ✨ A mindful moment can turn an ordinary day into something special! ✨

My Students Created Their Mandalas!

Within the scope of our “Happy Minds, Smart Skills: Building Life Competences Through Well-Being” project, our students designed their own mandalas. This activity helped them express their creativity, focus their minds, and relax while exploring the connection between art and well-being. Each mandala reflects the students’ individuality, emotions, and imagination. We are proud of their beautiful work and the positive energy they brought to this activity. More creative tasks are on the way!

Week 4: Gratitude & Affirmations Positive Thoughts, Positive Minds

Build positivity and self-confidence.Write one thing you’re grateful for today. Then, write one positive sentence about yourself. Example: “I am strong.” “I can do great things.”

💬 Corner 2 – Affirmation Wall

You are enough! Keep breathing! Peace begins with a smile:)ATATÜRK SECONDARY SCHOOL-SEHER'S TEAM. Creating this wall was so much fun! We used AI tools to design images for words like 'Brave,' 'Smart,' and 'Unique.' We were so excited to see our imagination come to life on the screen. It felt like we were inventors and artists at the same time! But the best part happens every morning. When we walk into class and see those words, we feel a big boost of energy. If someone is having a bad day, they see 'You are Kind' and they smile. If a lesson is difficult, we see 'You are Capable' and we try again. These words give us strength. They remind us that we can do anything if we believe in ourselves. Our Affirmative Wall makes our classroom a happy and positive place to learn.

🫁 Corner 3 – Breathing Buddy

  • Follow the rhythm. Inhale… Hold… Exhale…
  • Let your body and mind slow down together.

🌈 Corner 4 – Mindfulness Jar

Watch the glitter fall. As it settles, so do your thoughts.

The students had a very pleasant experience during the chemistry experiment, when they dissolved hypermanganese in water. We were listening to nice music while observing the dancing colours.

TOKİ Secondary School - Mindfullness Jar

Yunusemre Atatürk Secondary School - Seher's Team-mindfulness jar

Our students filled their Gratitude Jars with great joy and excitement. While writing down the things they were thankful for, they laughed, shared ideas, and encouraged each other. The activity created a positive and cheerful atmosphere in the classroom, helping students realize how many small but meaningful moments they can appreciate in their daily lives. It was a fun and meaningful experience that strengthened both gratitude and happiness.

🤸‍♀️ Corner 5 – Mindful Movement

  • Try these short mindful movements.Stretch slowly and breathe deeply.
