Promote closed cycles of material resources
Design for Recycling:
Products must be designed with future recyclability in mind. This means using materials that are easy to decompose and do not contain components that make recycling difficult.
Promoting closed resource loops involves creating a system where materials used in production and consumption are reused and recycled, rather than discarded. This approach seeks to maximize resource efficiency and minimize waste.
Supply Chain Collaboration:
Recycling:
Promote collaboration between producers, consumers, and recyclers to ensure that materials flow efficiently throughout the product lifecycle.
When products reach the end of their useful life, instead of being discarded, they are processed to recover their materials. This allows waste to be converted into new resources, such as recycled paper or recycled glass.
Waste Minimization:
Reuse of Materials
The goal is to reduce the amount of waste generated at every stage of the product lifecycle, from production to consumption. This includes optimizing processes and using cleaner technologies.
Materials that have already been used in a product can be reused in the same or another production. For example, plastic containers can be cleaned and reused
