WHAT IS ANCHOR?

The Anchor of Project-Based Learning is where students are introduced to a project by teachers, who are trying to gain student interest and engagement. Some examples of this are by sharing a personal experience that relates to the project, a video, or a newspaper.

The overall goal is for the teachers to help get the students attached and interested.

WHAT IS TASK?

A task is where the goal of the student is to complete a specific item. Whether that item is given by the teacher or even advanced students. Teachers can help dive deeper into the task for students by giving an example of what it should like like or explaing the rubric.

ELEMENT 3: DIRECTIONS

Directions are there to be a type of guidance for the students. These should help the students stay on track and explain to students how they should continue on within their project.
Directions should also include what specific things that should be addressed.

STUDENT CHOICES

Project-Based Learning is also important because the students have the ability to have their own choices. This might include having students in groups chosing different roles for the assignment, what steps to take on the project, etc. This allows for them to be able to develop decision making and creative thinking skills!

Student Inquiry

Student Inquiry is when the students are finding information and analyzing it in order to help them complete a project. Resources that can be used to help with their research can be found through books, websites, presentations, maybe even videos. This will help students develop research and analyzing skills.

COLLABORATION AND TEAMWORK

  • Students work in groups to complete task
  • Students might assign different roles for each member in the group.
  • Students will develop leadership skills, will seek information with each other, share ideas.
  • Students mighe receive a group grade or/and individual grade. Participation matters!

TEACHER COACHING AND FEEDBACLK

We as teachers are here to guide and coach our students. We are there to provide feedback during the project, to show or tell them ways that they could possibly improve their work and follow directions better. We then evaluate their projects and evaluate their understandings of the content material. Teachers also help with students that might be distracted by something else other than the task at hand.

STUDENT REFLECTION

Reflection is an important element of Project-Based Learning, which is where students may reflect on their individual work or their group as a whole. They reflect on the amount of progress that has been made as group or how they can improve things. Students can reflect on their personal experiences based off this project. Students can participate in group discussions as a part of reflection, or by the teacher assigning a survey or brainstorming activity.

PUBLIC PRESENTATION

  • Student work can be shown through public presentations.
  • Public presentations can be used for wider audience, not just those in the classroom.
  • Presentations can be presented through online platforms such as Zoom for audiences around the world.
