What is the Concorde?
The concorde was the first supersonic passenger carring airplane. Built in the 1960's by both Great britian and France aircraft manufacturers. The concorde could fly passangers across the alantic at twice the speed of sound, but could also reach higher altitudes than a normal commercial jet, reaching up to 55,000 to 60,000 feet.

The concorde had many features that create speed efficiency, these include...
- a tailless body
- a slim fuselage
- an ogival delta wing
- a droop nose
- Rolls-Royce Olympus engines
Milestones
- The Concorde made its first non-stop flight crossing the Atlantic from Washington USA, to Orally Paris in an astonishing 3 hours and 33 minutes.
- The Queen's first flight on Concorde was on November 2, 1977, as part of her Silver Jubilee tour.
Passengers on the concorde experienced the life of luxury while flying faster than the rotation of the earth. However this experience did not come cheap with tickets being £6,636 ( 10,800 USD in 2003 ), a ticket for the concorde now would cost around 18 to 19, 000 USD. Not only did this ticket price cover the cost for a once in a lifetime experience, it also covered the champagne, lobster and caviar that was served on the flight. When the Queen of England flew on the concorde her seat was always 1A.

Engineering Challenges
The designers had many challenges making the concorde including,
- High fuel consumption
- Sonic boom
- Heating of the airframe
- Expansion of the metal frame
- Limited routes
- Due to supersonic restrictions and noise concerns.
Incident
In July of 2000 the Concorde took off, a sharp piece of debris from the runway was picked up by the wheels and flung into a fuel tank. The fuel caught on fire, and with being too low to the ground to return the concorde crashed into a hotel in the town of Gonesse. This sadly created an inferno taking a total of 113 lives, not sparing anyone in the plane.
Legacy
Only 14 aircrafts entered the service, however this was proof of anglo-french cooperation and the technological achievements of supersonic passenger travel. The concorde has inspired many, including the new Boom Supersonics who in 2025 have broken the sound barrier without the loud sonic boom.
Conclustion
The Concorde pushed the boundaries of aviation and has inspired the future of supersonic passenger flights. This has also taught the lessons of environmental, noise, and regulation constraints that can put limits on supersonic passenger flights.
