Communication, Critical Thinking, Collaboration, and Creativity
Hannah Kerr INST51020-OL21- Transforming Learning with Technology

When it comes to technology integration in education what does it take to make the process be productive?

Technology Intergration in the Classroom

What do each of the groupings include? 1. Communication, critical thinking, collaboration, and creativity 2. Creation, consumption, curation, and connection

Does every teacher utilize one of these groupings? Yes! Does each teacher have one specific grouping they utilize more than the other? YES!

The 4C's I use the most:

Communication, Critical Thinking, Collaboration, and Creativity

Communication

Why this choice? *This is vital to a successful partnership whether you are in person or digital.*There is a wide variety of ways to communicate your information: Canvas, Gmail, Presentations, Social Media, and many more. Applications are endless in today's digital world.*Good communication means stable environments, productive agendas and positive collaborations between not only staff, parents but students too!

Emails

Canvas

Video Chat

Students with accomodations such as IEPs or 504s have to be regularly checked in on or updated so it is productive to have easy access to Zoom/Google Meet to discuss what is happening with the proper audience (parents, case managers, and teachers).

Emails can be sent out to parents about upcoming events at the school or about their students welfare.

You can post notifications or pages that contain important information the student can access anywhere relating to their course.

Critical Thinking

Why this choice? *Students are here at school to learn new skills. If they do not have the opportunity to learn those new skills then they will begin to fall behind. *Teachers need to give opportunities to those students to actively attempt critical thinking skills to growing and build to the next level. Critical Thinking is also how students will learn how to navigate through life outside of school. *This generation is heavily influenced on the digital age so to have skills that are geared towards that will be most beneficial. The skills could be learning how to navigate their devices to using those devices to create something complex and new. *Critical Thinking skills are a daily occurance.

Completing complex new assignments

Finding Crediable Sources

Technology Skills

If students are given an assignmetn in a new format they may seem lost. They need to work with the activity and refine their skills to complete the assessment. An assignment might be an digital escape room or a virtal field trip.

Giving students an assignment such as a Webquest then having them utilize differnet key board shortcuts to locate their answer easier. (Control "F" highlights the word for them)

If students are given an assignment that requires sources, students will have to determine using their critical thinking skills if the source is trustworthy enough to back their claims.

Collaboration

Why this choice? *No matter the grade level we have to make sure that we are all on the same page in curriculum to best serve our students. We are prepping our students for success as they move on to the next grade. *In the middle school level we not only collaborate with our team for the group of students we all share but the curriculum to ensure we are all pace as we move unit to unit. *We observe different behaviors in our rooms and to communicate our findings will better serve either the following teacher's class period with the kid or the entire school year for all. *Collaboration helps strengthen bonds and will refine any skills such as compromise or empathy for both parties.

Discuss Curriculum

Discuss Behaviors

Discuss Next Steps

Discuss the next focus point ahead to ensure your students are getting a well rounded experience. Find those digital resources then apply them to the unit. Before applying, use the resource to make sure it is worth their time.

Discuss with fellow coworks in your subject to find new ideas. There are hundreds of digital tools and one might slip through the cracks. Discover new techniques through discussion. It might be the very thing a student needs for the information to click.

If a student is struggling in class it could be for many reasons. Conversation between adults could help the student's circumstances. There is always a reason behind a bad behavior. All findings can be recorded digitally on the appropriate channels.

Creativity

Why this choice? *Students have only tapped into a small percentage of their potential. They have yet to discover what they want to be in the future. Giving them creative assignments will help tap into that untouched potential. *Students could see different outcomes or methods than we do based off their generation. Their method could spark the next big idea or help them click with the information better. *As a teacher you can see what the student's thought process is and adjust any factors that might be holding them back. This allows teachers to see their true knowledge of said student for data purposes.

Enlightenment

Find an alternative

Find new tools

When allowed a bit of creative room, students could find new digital tools that would not only help them but could help the classroom as a whole. Tools are everywhere and were created for a reason- to use and improve!

Students given a project with limited restrictions and all the resources can result in a detailed unique project that sets a great example to others.

Students might not fully understand the inital explaination/lesson. To allow them to have a bit of creativity it might mean something clicks and knowledge is retained.
