Forgiveness
Do you know what it means to be forgiving?
I am one of the Character Kids. My name is Fatima, but people call me Forgiving Fatima. Forgiveness is very important to me. Do you know what it means to forgive?
When you stop feeling anger toward someone who has done something hurtful to you, that is forgiveness. They call me Forgiving Fatima because I always forgive others.
There is someone in history who is also known for being forgiving.
Meet Corrie Ten Boom
After almost a year, Corrie was let out of the camp. She started sharing a message of forgiveness. She met a soldier who had been at the camp and had been very cruel to her. She forgave him when he met her and asked for her forgiveness. Corrie would say that forgiveness can be very hard, but it can help you heal. Her ability to forgive people who hurt her is a great example of forgiving others.
One day, soldiers caught Corrie and her family. They were put in prison. Later, Corrie was sent away to live in the same camp she was trying to save others from.

There was very little food in the camp. The living conditions were terrible, and many people died but Corrie stayed strong and positive.
How was she forgiving?
I am pleased to introduce you to Corrie Ten Boom. Do you remember learning about Anne Frank and how she had to be hidden during the war? Corrie and her family would hide Jewish people in an upstairs room inside their home to stop the Nazis from sending them away.
Be forgiving!
Do you know how I became the Character Kid for forgiveness? I did it by always forgiving others and myself. You can choose to be forgiving, too! Click the kind choice for each situation below.
Phenomenal! You know how to be a forgiving person. When you can forgive yourself and others, you can be a Character Kid!
Just for fun!
Are you ready for a forgiveness experiment?
Why is it so important to forgive? Try this little experiment to see. Take an empty backpack, and start filling it with rocks. For each rock you put in your bag, say something that makes you feel sad or mad. When the backpack is really heavy, put it on. See how long you can walk around carrying all that weight.
This is what it feels like to not forgive and to hold grudges. It doesn't affect the person you didn't forgive. It affects you! You do not want to walk around with all that weight--it is hard to think about anything except the heavy rocks you are carrying. Forgive others, and you will feel light and happy.
