Hi, I'm Liam

Meet Liam Liam, is a young traveler on his first solo trip abroad. After a plane crash on a remote island, Liam’s only tool for survival is a mysterious notebook that helps him “write his way out” of each situation — but only if he uses correct English grammar. In order to reach safety, Liam will have to master: 1. Parts of Speech – how each word plays a role in a sentence 2. Sentence Structure – how subjects, verbs, and clauses fit together 3. Sentence Types – how to build different kinds of sentences with correct spelling and punctuation
Ready to begin the adventure?
Liam buckles into his seat, clutching his travel notebook — a gift from his grandmother who told him, “Words can take you anywhere.” Moments later, turbulence shakes the plane. Alarms blare, the lights flicker, and—CRASH. Liam wakes up on a beach surrounded by luggage and debris. His notebook lies nearby, glowing faintly. When he opens it, a sentence appears: “Welcome, Liam. Complete the missions to find your way home.”

How Do These Words All Go Together?

Using the parts of speech, Liam was able to see that these words formed the following sentence: "Liam quickly grabbed the heavy backpack and carried it accross the beach."

You now have a backpack.. You will also have food added into it. You will need these items for the days you spend in the forest!

Awesome!

Great work

Liam can now move on to mission #2

Forest

Liam carried the backpack across the beach and into the forest. Once in the forest, he tries to use logs to build a shelter, but every time he stacks one log wrong, it tumbles. The notebook flashes: A strong sentence needs strong structure. Find your subjects and verbs of the following sentence to keep things standing: "Liam carefully stacked each heavy log, and after the sun began to set, he successfully built a sturdy shelter." Mission: Identify subjects, verbs, objects, and clauses to build strong sentence “structures.”

Liam finds a variety of wild berries, so he decides to write a note to himself about which berries look safest to eat. When he rushes, the sentence come out messy: "berries red sweet not poison maybe safe” The Notebook Glows: "⚠️ Incorrect sentence structure. Fix your punctuation and word order!” Liam slows down and rewrites his sentence. His newly written sentence now says: "The red berries are sweet and safe." As he continues to look through the pages, Liam realizes he needs to fix more of his notes. Mission: Review sentence fragments, run-ons, and punctuation to make clear, complete sentences.
